Lucifer Gets Renewed for Fifth and Final Season, Showrunners Say it’s Ending on Their Terms

Lucifer was on the verge of cancelation before Netflix decided to revive the series for a fourth season, even though it was only for 10 episodes. It seems like those episodes were good enough for the series to be renewed for one more season but it's also going to be the last, which makes the news bittersweet. At least it will have a season to wrap up any storylines that will need to be finished.

Variety confirmed that the series would be ending, so this is an official announcement and not just speculation or a rumor. This might be sad for some but, once again, the writers do have time to make this a good finale that all fans can enjoy. At the least, it won't end on a cliffhanger as other shows have.

It shouldn't end on a cliffhanger, at least. Hopefully, the writers know better.

Here's what a Netflix representative had to say about the series' final season:

"We're thrilled that ‘Lucifer' fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can't wait to give them the big finish they've all been waiting for."

The showrunners also released a statement, claiming that they are ending the show on their own terms, which is always nice to hear:

"We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of ‘Lucifer' on our terms. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!!"

Lucifer can currently be streamed on Netflix. Lucifer season five doesn't have a release date.
