Though fans weren’t expecting it by the end of the first season, it does look like Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is pushing a forbidden romance between Galadriel and Sauron.

With Galadriel having her own husband by the time of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, star Morfydd Clark talks a bit about Celeborn and when he could be appearing on the show.

Could Celeborn be Showing Up in The Rings of Power?

In a recent interview with Nerdist, Clark was asked on the status of Celborn who was actually mentioned in the first season as Galadriel's dead husband, to which Clark replies, “Well, I find it really emotional that she thinks that Celeborn is dead. And I like to feel that there’s this part of her that isn’t awake; the softest part of her has been closed. And one day, hopefully, Celeborn will be there to make her safe again.”

So far, the only character that’s been romantically coded to be for Galadriel is Halbrand a.k.a. Sauron, but Galadriel still has a confidant in the form of Elrond, who admittedly is not so keen on using the Rings of Power, but is nevertheless being tasked to lead Galadriel’s quest to find Sauron and stop him.

Should the series introduce a Celeborn, he would have to be incredibly fleshed out (and likeable) to further justify why Galadriel would end up with him rather than the fantasy bad boy who desperately wants her to be by his side.

Galadriel’s Connection to Halbrand

Despite being back on a quest to stop Sauron, Clark does feel like there are still some ‘feelings’ between the two, with Galadriel specifically missing her buddy Halbrand. Clark describes the dynamic:

“I feel she definitely misses Halbrand, and I think she also misses herself before she was betrayed. I think there’s a loss of innocence once that’s happened to you. And yeah, and I think also something big that has happened is that she’s seeing herself as corruptible and that’s a tough thing to come to terms with.”

So far, the character under Sauron’s seduction is Celebrimbor, and it will probably be a few more episodes into the second season before fans get to watch Galadriel reunite with Sauron where he’ll once again probably ask her to join him.

When will Sauron and Galadriel Meet Again?

As far as the season has gotten, Galadriel still has no idea that Sauron is at Eregion, and it doesn’t help that even Celebrimbor is keeping his secrets from the elves in order to be allowed to keep making more rings. It also doesn’t help that Sauron is also actively blocking any messages coming to Celebrimbor, so he has no idea what the Galadriel and the other elves are aware of.

This should all fantastically culminate in the destruction of Eregion at some point, but some fans have their fingers crossed that they’ll get more than just one Sauron/Galadriel interaction besides the sword v crown “sexy fight” that was teased in the trailer.
