Well, no matter how you feel about these live-action Disney remakes, the company is going to keep on making them until more than one of these films bomb. The Little Mermaid, which is the very first film of the supposed Disney renaissance back in the ‘90s, has been slated to get a live-action film for some time now, with Ariel already being cast not too long ago. Well, it's Prince Eric's time since Deadline has revealed that the handsome character has been cast.
The report states that Jonah Hauer-King will be playing Eric, which is going to get a lot of people talking since the character is a favorite prince of many. Hauer-King has appeared in The Song of Names, A Dog's Way Home, and The Last Photograph. This is clearly the actor's biggest role yet and it will be interesting to see how fans react to his casting.
Eric might be one of the better-looking Disney princes but is also considered a bit bland when compared to his temporaries. He isn't as cool as Aladdin or possibly gay like Li Shang from Mulan but we're sure the remake will make him a bit more interesting. The problem with this is that these Disney remakes try too hard to address nitpicks from the original, so expect that to be done in this remake.
I can't wait to see how Ariel chooses to have legs over something feminist instead of a man. Yay.
No release date for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has been announced.
