Law & Order will be making a comeback to the small screen after 11 and a half years since it was canceled. The shocking cancellation of one of NBC's highest rating TV series had everyone scratching their head. Instead, the media giant picked up Law & Order: Los Angeles and renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for Season 12.

Reports reveal that Law & Order Season 21 would be written by the show's original creator, Dick Wolfe, and writer-showrunner, Rick Eid. The series would continue with its original format. The show's premise will stay the same -- a segment that shows police and detectives working on the case and another segment, which shows the courtroom proceedings.

Furthermore, it has been reported that former cast member Sam Waterston, who played Jack McCoy in the series, is on top of the list to come back for Law & Order Season 21.

Dick Wolfe's Law & Order has become one of the most iconic series in TV history. A lot of potentials was still brewing for the show, such as the possibility of it becoming the longest-running drama series in US TV history. Instead, this crown has been given to a Law & Order spinoff show, Law & Order: SUV.

Wolfe believes a great future is ahead of Law & Order as the mother ship of one of the most successful procedural franchises. But as of right now, Wolfe Entertainment is taking it one step at a time.

"There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true. This is mine," Dick Wolfe said about the Law & Order Season 21 order.

There is no set release date for Law & Order Season 21. There are still a lot of rivers to cross, from the casting to the schedule of filming. It is highly likely that the show will not be part of the midseason premieres.
