The My Hero Academia fandom on Twitter is in utter chaos following the release of Chapter 321 last August 1, Sunday.

The chapter has implied that Mineta is bisexual, which gathered mixed reactions from fans—especially the LGBT+ ones. Many of them are shocked by the reveal, considering that there are tons of other characters that they believe are more appropriate to be canonically LGBT+ rather than Mineta.

So what exactly happened in the chapter that made people believe that Mineta is bi?

Warning: minor manga spoilers ahead!

The specific scene that fans are talking about was the fight between Midoriya and the class of 1-A. While Mineta and Tsuyu were trying to get to him, Mineta confessed. He mentions that he doesn't think that Midoriya's power was what made him awesome—but rather his determination and will. Mineta specifically says that this is what made him "fall" for Midoriya.

Due to this surprising confession, fans have deduced that Mineta is canonically bi. However, many LGBT+ fans refuse to claim him as part of their community. That's not surprising considering his personality—the token pervert of the class.

On the other hand, some fans believe it's a mistranslation or simply an expression of intense admiration. Twitter user @aitaikimochi has clarified that the translation is correct—but it doesn't exactly confirm that Mineta is bi. You can check out their Twitter thread here.

Minoru Mineta, also known as Fresh-Picked Hero: Grape Juice, is one of the students from Class 1-A at UA. He has been one of the most disliked characters for the longest time, due to his incredibly perverted behavior.

While there is no direct confirmation regarding Mineta's sexuality, fans are obviously free to interpret it however they like. It's clear that Mineta has a thing for women, which is why some are confused with the confession. Although, remember that a bisexual's attraction levels for the opposite/same gender vary. Maybe more will be revealed in the upcoming chapters.

My Hero Academia is a shōnenmanga series written by Kōhei Horikoshi. It began serialization in 2014 under Weekly Shōnen Jump. In 2016, the first season of the anime adaptation by Bones was released. The series is currently in its 5th season.
