A lot of fans were stunned and bummed out when they learned that Batwoman star Ruby Rose was officially going to exit the CW Batman spinoff show. Instead of rebooting or canceling the show altogether, it was announced that actress Javicia Leslie will be taking over for Rose as the first black Batwoman named Ryan Wilder, and the general belief amongst fans was that the series was just going to leave Kate Kane's absence unaddressed.

Now, in a stunning new development, Kate Kane will be making her triumphant return to the show but this time around, the character will be portrayed by a new actress. Deadline first reported that Wallis Day is going to take on the Kate Kane mantle which storyline-wise will help solidify who the true Batwoman really is.

In case you were wondering, this isn't Wallis' first rodeo in the world of superheroes as she previously appeared in Syfy's Superman spinoff series Krypton as Nyssa-Vex. Now, following Deadline's bombshell news, Wallis took to her official Instagram account to officially confirm her casting.

Expressing her excitement over the project, Day said that she knows how huge of a responsibility it is to be taking over for Ruby while confirming that she's already begun work on the said show. Check out her post here.

Now, it'll be interesting to see what role Kane will play now that Gotham has a new Batwoman. It's almost guaranteed that she and Wilder are going to clash but the possibility of them actually forming an alliance isn't exactly out of question. What are the odds of CW pulling a story arc similar to the DC animated film Mystery of the Batwoman? I think that would be really cool.

The latest episode of Batwoman Season 2 is now streaming on CW.
