For the past few weeks, we've been hearing several casting news regarding Sony's Kraven the Hunter as the film is set to begin production soon. But one key character that they have yet to cast is the antagonist that the titular character will face. Now, it looks like they have finally found the actor who will play the main foe of the antihero.
Deadline has reported that The Many Saints of Newark star Alessandra Nivola is joining the cast of Kraven the Hunter. There are no exact details about his role yet, but he will be playing the villain. He is joining the cast that already includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, and Ariana DeBose. J.C. Chandor will direct the film with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach serving as producers. Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk are writing the screenplay.
Right now, it's hard to speculate which character the actor is going to play since there is a lot of variety of characters that they can choose from in the comics. We also don't know yet which direction they are going to take with the story of the character. However, soon enough, we should be hearing more details about his role as production is set to ramp up.
Nivola's casting comes after starring in The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark where he played Dickie Moltisanti, Tony Soprano's mentor. He also starred in films such as Face/Off, Jurassic Park III, American Hustle, Selma, and The Wizard of Lies. He also received a Tony Award nomination for the 2014 revival of The Elephant Man where he co-starred with Bradley Cooper.
Given that they have finally cast the villain for the film, it is a sign that production will begin very soon as they already found the actors for the majority of the principal cast. We could be hearing more casting news about the project soon for other key roles (if there's any). As for Nivola, he has been a veteran actor for years now who has consistently proved that he is talented so he is a great choice and this is yet again another major film role for him.

Kraven the Hunter is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on January 13, 2023.
