The Marvel Cinematic Universe has one of the biggest fandoms in the world. The studio has always been dominating the box office and is successfully keeping a good track record over the years. And while it is essential to include some fan service every now and then, it seems like this is not the best way to deliver the best stories.

As part of the panel at the New York Film Academy, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about listening to the fans and how they'd include this in making creative choices for their projects. "It can become, ‘Oh, if we thought too much about it, if we thought too much about pleasing everybody about everything, we collapse into a fetal position and never do anything," he explained.

Feige said they don't do that because they mainly think about incorporating something that'll be "interesting," "cool," something that "fulfills" a promise they set up, or something that would "grow" in the MCU in an "unexpected way." Basically, instead of including something that the fans want, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore. Feige said they prefer to add something that people aren't anticipating, like "killing half of your heroes for instance."

However, Feige also pointed out that they make films with the intention of working both for people who have watched the other films and for those who have never seen even a single Marvel movie. "Yes, with Infinity War and Endgame, it gets tougher at that point but we test-screen all of our movies like additional photography test screenings," he added.

Feige also gave a piece of advice to the audience, "I don't know why, never become too arrogant, never think you don't have something to learn from an audience."

Marvel's next movie is Black Widow, which is slated for release on May 1, 2020.
