Kevin Feige Confirms Doctor Strange Cameo was Planned for WandaVision

It's been almost two months since WandaVision has ended yet fans still can't stop talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe show. After all, there were high hopes that Doctor Strange would show up in the series finale. Interestingly, those hopes are not unfounded. Kevin Feige has just confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch was supposed to have a cameo in the MCU series.

Fans have been looking forward to Cumberbatch's appearance in WandaVision since the show was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Unfortunately, all nine episodes of the series went by without a single glimpse at the Sorcerer Supreme (save for one awesome reference).

So why didn't Doctor Strange show up in WandaVision? Feige revealed in a Rolling Stone interview that they had originally planned for Cumberbatch to appear in the series and that the Sherlock actor had already signed on for the cameo. However, these plans were later altered for an interesting reason.

"Some people might say, 'Oh, it would've been so cool to see Doctor Strange. But It would have taken away from Wanda," Feige said. "We didn't want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie - here's the white guy, 'Let me show you how power works."

It's great to know that Marvel Studios wanted to make sure that the focus was on Elizabeth Olsen's character and how Wanda eventually takes control of her power. Although it's disappointing not to see Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch interacting in WandaVision, fans can rest assured we'll get plenty of that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

All nine episodes of WandaVision are now available on Disney+. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently in production and is scheduled for release on March 25, 2022.
