Kemono Jihen has been good to Shiki fans lately: Episode 7 and Episode 8 adapted the manga chapters known as Shiki Arc, in which we follow the spider kemono in his quest to find answers about his missing family. Here's all you need to know before episode 9 of the 12-episode supernatural shōnen anime is released:
Kemono Jihen Overview and Episode 8 Recap
In Kemono Jihen, the main character Kabane is a half-ghoul taken under the wing of Inugami, a detective specializing in the occult, In Tokyo, Kabane meets and befriends Inugami's other proteges, Akira and Shiki. All boys and Inugami himself are Kemono - human-beast hybrids - and their job is to resolve tensions between humans and Kemono.
Episode 8 picked up from the previous episode's cliffhanger. Shiki, Kabane, and Inugami manage to trap Akio, Shiki's uncle, after he confessed having used Shiki's mother, making her give birth to spider kemonos hoping that one of them would produce the legendary golden web.
But defeating Akio is harder than it sounds. Physically, he is only a weak human but the abominable creatures he created, forcing Shiki's mother to give birth, again and again, answer to him and try to protect him. Upon seeing these grotesque "siblings" Shiki becomes paralyzed with disgust and unresolved trauma.
In a heartwarming moment, Kabane who will do anything to protect and support his first friend, defeats the monsters himself. Meanwhile, Akira and Inugami are sidetracked and meet a small girl, Aya, who seems to hate Akio.
It is revealed that after many failed experiments on Akio's part, Aya was born: she's the Golden Spider Webbing Akio hoped to produce, being a spider kemono whose web has healing powers. This means that she's Shiki's half-sister, though she's very reluctant to reveal this information to him.
Shiki and Aya's mother, Kumi, turn out to be alive, preserved by Aya's healing web, though she is comatose and Inugami takes her to a hospital that treats Kemono so that she can get better. Shiki lets Akio live, knowing that losing his research and Aya, who joins Shiki, is more devastating to him than death. But Akio doesn't seem willing to give up experimenting on Kemono. Will he feature again as a villain? And what will Shiki's mother reveal, if she wakes up?
Kemono Jihen Anime Episode 9 Release Date
Kemono Jihen is broadcast every Sunday. Episode 9, titled "Family" is going to be aired next Sunday on March 7 for premium Funimation users. Those streaming without a subscription will be able to watch Episode 8 on that day, but will have to wait until the 14th of Match to watch Episode 9.

Kemono Jihen episodes are broadcast weekly at 22:00 JST. For the US and Canada, this translates to around 8:00 AM and for Central Europe around 14:00.
