Kate Middleton and more royals could be given more responsibilities by King Charles. A new report claimed that the new British monarch would expand the number of Counsellors of State.

King Charles Will Give Kate Middleton A New Role?

His Majesty is reportedly planning to expand his pool of advisors for the first time. At present, the Counsellors of State are the four royals next in line to the throne who are over 18 years old — Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice. The king's spouse is also included in the fold.

However, King Charles wants to expand the numbers and add three new members to the group, Express reported. Kate Middleton, Princess Anne and Prince Edward will reportedly be the new additions.

The counsellors carry out "most of the official duties of the Sovereign," including Privy Council meetings, document signings and "receiving the credentials of new ambassadors to the United Kingdom."

The outlet noted that the move is "unprecedented." The palace has not issued an official statement about it yet.

Did King Charles Have A Change Of Heart About The Counsellors Of State?

In September, a report from The Telegraph claimed that King Charles was planning to rewrite the law to make his official stand-ins or Counsellors of State working royals, therefore disqualifying Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice. There were claims that Buckingham Palace was also under pressure to remove Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from their roles due to the controversies involving them.

In addition, the new monarch wants to "slim down" the monarchy. He also "recognizes the incongruity of having a trio of non-working Royals able to step into his shoes if he is abroad or incapacitated," the report added.

However, he seems to have a change of heart because instead of dropping the non-working royals, he reportedly decided to just add more in the fold. As previously mentioned, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne and Prince Edward could join Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice as Counsellors of State.

Royal sources told Mirror that King Charles does not want to further embarrass his son Prince Harry and brother Prince Andrew. So, he would not drop them from their positions as Counsellors of State.
