Karen Gillan Teases Nebula's Character Development After Avengers: Endgame

Karen Gillan's Nebula officially made her debut in the MCU in 2014's Guardian of The Galaxy. Nebula started as a devoted follower to her adoptive father, Thanos, whom she served for years in accomplishing his ruthless pursuits.

Starting as a villain, Avengers: Endgame gave Nebula a redemption arc, and the viewers finally saw an entirely opposite version of the character. Nebula impressively bonded with Tony Stark, siding with the Avengers in fighting Thanos, and even teamed up with her sister Nebula and betrayed their adoptive father.

Now that Nebula is set to return in Thor: Love and Thunder alongside the other Guardians of The Galaxy, fans are wondering what is next for the character, whether she will remain as one of the guardians or betray them once again.

In an interview with Gizmodo, during Karen Gillan's press for her latest film Dual, the actress teased about the changes with her MCU character, Nebula. Gillan opens up on what's next for her character after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Gillan revealed, “One of the most interesting things about Nebula for me was her relationship with her father and sister... and now that her father, Thanos, has been eliminated, he was the source of all of her torment and abuse. It’s really interesting to explore how this character starts to heal and who this character starts to become now that the threat that was always looming over her is gone. So I’ve been having a lot of fun with that."

The actress went on to tease the fans that they will see a version of Nebula they haven't seen before. "What can I tell you without telling you?... I mean, she’s definitely going to become a slightly different person as the events unfold after all those events in Endgame. So we’re definitely going to see a new version of the character. Maybe a looser version of the character? Maybe a little more levity? But we’ll see because I haven’t actually seen the movie yet,” Gillan said.

Gillan concluded with, "This is going to be an amazing adventure for the Guardians,” Gillan said. “And also, maybe we might be closing out a final chapter for the Guardians as we know it.”

These hints from Karen Gillan must have exhilarated Nebula fans. In Nebula's first appearances in Guardians of The Galaxy 1 & 2, she was portrayed as cold and distant, and never really had a fun interaction with any MCU character.

Thankfully, in the very first sequence of Avengers: Endgame, we witnessed Nebula as a more laid-back character, building a friendship with Tony Stark. As the film progressed, Nebula completely sided with the Avengers and The Guardians of The Galaxy.

Now that Nebula is set to return for Thor: Love and Thunder, it looks like we will have further exploration of Gillan's character in the upcoming film.

Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere on July 8, and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is pushing a 2023 release date.
