Karen Gillan Opens Up on Disney+ Nebula Spin-Off: "I Guess Marvel Will Have to Say Yes"

Karen Gillan's Nebula is set to have two appearances in 2022 and 2023. After being introduced as a ruthless assassin nurtured by his adoptive father Thanos, Nebula went through major character development throughout the Infinity Saga and became an official ally to the Avengers in the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 will center on the Guardian's final journey while also highlighting Nebula as a new addition to the team, replacing her sister Gamora. According to Seth Green, who played MCU's Howard The Duck in both GOTG and Avengers: Endgame, the upcoming threequel puts a heavy emphasis on Nebula and Gamora, which hints that the sisters will finally get the closure they both deserve.

Now that Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is confirmed to be the crew's last adventure, fans are wondering what's next for Nebula and the rest of the Guardians crew following the threequel.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, while promoting her latest film Dual, Karen Gillan sat down and talked about her hopes for a potential Disney+ spin-off centered on her MCU character.

When asked directly about the possibility of a Disney+ spin-off centered on Nebula, Gillan responded, "I don't know, I guess Marvel will have to say yes. So, if you want to get them to do that? That would be great. But I think I think Nebula has a really interesting backstory, so that would be really cool to learn more about."

Karen Gillan's Nebula is one of the complex characters in the MCU, and going further to explore more of the character's backstory would certainly be interesting. If GOTG 3 might not completely dive into Nebula's backstory, a Disney+ spin-off would be a great idea for Marvel to look back on the character's ruthless past.

Aside from that, it would also be interesting to see where the Guardians crew will go next after GOTG 3, and a multi-season Disney+ spin-off following the Guardians' future journey might also be a good choice for Marvel.

For now, Karen Gillan will reprise her role as Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder, premiering in theaters on July 8.
