In Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK), Yuji Itadori randomly eats a cursed finger, which pulls him into a dangerous yet fascinating world. The shounen anime's twists raise questions, not only about the number of fingers Yuji has eaten (so far) but also about how many fingers Sukuna has.
Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, so proceed with caution.
How Many Fingers Does Sukuna Have in Total?
Sukuna has 20 fingers, and no, we aren't including toes. The King of Curses has four arms in his true form, which explains why 20 fingers are possible.
Unfortunately for the JJK cast, this means that they have 20, rather than 10 fingers to deal with.
The Shibuya Incident arc makes Yuji lament the fact that he ever crossed paths with the four-handed curse.
How Many Fingers Did Yuji Eat in Season 1?
By the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Yuji has eaten four of Sukuna's fingers:
1) The One That Started It All
Yuji consumes the first finger, which he has discovered as part of his occult club activities, in an attempt to save Megumi and his friends.
He made this decision because his dying grandfather had encouraged him to be noble and use his strength to help others.
2) The One Gojo Gave Him
Eating one of Sukuna's fingers sets Yuji on a path with no return.
Now, he must become a Jujutsu sorcerer, eat the fingers that are already in the sorcerers' possession, and find the rest so that they can finally destroy Sukuna — even if Yuji must die too.
When Yuji agrees to this, Gojo gives him another finger, which he consumes too.
3) Yuji's First Encounter With a Special Curse
During his first encounter with a special curse, Yuji came across another finger that he proceeded to consume.
4) The One Sukuna Took From Megumi
Towards the finale of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Megumi finds one more finger but warns Yuji not to use it as this could be very dangerous at the time.
However, Sukuna takes over and consumes this finger, too, against Yuji's will.
How Many Fingers Has Yuji Eaten So Far?
By the end of the Shibuya Incident arc of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Yuji has consumed a total of 15 fingers out of 20.
Yuji had only eaten four fingers before the Shibuya Incident, but when the Hasaba twins find him unconscious after his fight with Choso, they feed him another one of Sukuna's fingers.
A short while later, Jogo senses Sukuna's presence and rushes over to Yuji's location. Jogo force-feeds the unconscious Yuji 10 more fingers, hoping this would allow Sukuna to fully take over Yuji's body.
This brings the total number of fingers Yuji has eaten so far to 15. However, due to a shocking manga twist that we won't spoil in this section, we aren't sure if Yuji will get to eat any more fingers.
What Will Happen if Yuji Eats All of Sukuna's Fingers?
Sukuna is the King of Curses, and it's nearly impossible to kill him permanently.
Gojo, however, intends to use Sukuna's fingers and Yuji's strength to exorcise the cursed spirit once and for all.
While some of Sukuna's fingers remain out there, he has a way of coming back to possess someone new.
This means that getting hold of all 20 fingers might be the key to exorcising him for good.
If Yuji eats all the fingers, it's believed that executing him will kill Sukuna too, as the King of Curses won't be able to regenerate without at least one finger.
This opportunity only presented itself when Yuji came into the picture because our hero demonstrated an uncanny ability to consume the fingers without permanently losing control of himself.
Most others would have been lost to the King of Curses's control early on, but Yuji managed to keep him in check and even impose rules on him.
That being said, Sukuna gets stronger each time Yuji eats a finger. Therefore, there's always the fear that Sukuna might eventually become too strong for Yuji and take over.
If Yuji ate all the fingers, it's possible that Sukuna would emerge in his full power before anyone could exorcise him.
By the end of JJK season 2, the main cast isn't anywhere close to achieving this.
The Possible Role of Sukuna's Five Remaining Fingers
Chapter 222 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga reveals that Sukuna didn't need all 20 fingers to switch bodies and cause serious harm.
In the tragic manga chapter, Sukuna manages to exploit a rule that Yuji has imposed on him. In doing so, he injures Yuji enough to escape his body and possess Megumi Fushiguro.
Since then, Sukuna has wreaked havoc as Megumi doesn't possess the same power to control him.
The manga is now concerned with a big endgame battle, and the topic of the five remaining fingers has yet to be addressed.
Sukuna is presumably not in full power until he consumes them, but what would happen if Yuji found them and ate them first? Would this split Sukuna's spirit?
So far, the manga has been silent on this possibility, but we would love to know, as it would be a pity for a story that only started due to Sukuna's finger to end without coming full circle.
