Joker: Joaquin Phoenix Kind of Scared Marc Maron When He Got Into Character

Besides the release of Shazam! this year, the DCEU is going to be a tad experimental with the release of Joker in October. GLOW's Marc Maron is also part of the movie, and he talks a bit about working with box office heavyweights like Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix. Apparently, Phoenix got pretty scary when he went into his Joker character.

Talking to NME (via ComicBook), Maron explained:

"It was great to meet [De Niro] and it was great to see him work… I wasn't really beside myself because they do become people very quickly. When you're not shooting you are just hanging around. Still, he's Robert De Niro and the subtleties of how he does what he does [are] innate and amazing to watch. He's a nice guy and kinda shy, but it was a great experience and not too much of a mindf*ck."

As for his experience with Phoenix though, it's a completely different story. Maron continues:

"Joaquin is another story… I didn't really get to talk to him because he was pretty immersed in The Joker. I was just like, ‘I'm not gonna bother that guy'. That was fine. You just gotta respect people's process."

We don't really have any confirmation on who Maron is playing, but rumor has it that he'll be playing the producer of De Niro's character, who is said to be a talk show host. Knowing how Maron can get pretty mean in character, I imagine he's going to be saying some harsh things to Phoenix's Arthur Fleck, and he'll end up paying for it by the end of the film when he comes face to face with the Joker.

At least that's my guess.

We don't know when DC will drop a trailer yet, but it's likely it will come alongside the release of Shazam! next week. Catch Joker in theaters Oct. 5.
