Joker Gets Two More Surreal Posters


A lot of people are excited for the release of Joker next month, and people online have been gushing all over Joaquin Phoenix's performance in the film. Despite its alleged bias to DC films, Rotten Tomatoes has actually dropped two more posters for Joker, and they're the most stylistic ones we've gotten so far.

While the playing card motif has been tried with almost every iteration of the character's marketing, I'm really loving this one with the "melting face" to reveal the clown make-up underneath. While the metaphor is clear, I think it's also a cool nod to Jack Nicholson's Joker from Batman (1989). In the film, we have a scene where the Joker wears make-up and he gets water splashed on his face, revealing his pale white skin:

When it comes to this Joker movie though, a lot of people think it's a character study masquerading as a superhero film. There's a lot of clear influence from Martin Scorsese films like The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver, but it's all set in the familiar world of Gotham City. While I'm not expecting any spinoffs to come out of the movie, I would love for other comic characters to get nods in the film. What are the odds the movie has its own version of Dr. Harleen Quinzel?

Failed comedian Arthur Fleck encounters violent thugs while wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown. Disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow dissent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Joker is set to hit theaters on Oct. 4.
