Joker Director Todd Phillips on What Joaquin Phoenix was Like on DC Film Set

Most people probably think that Joaquin Phoenix was a difficult man to work with when he was getting ready to play Arthur Fleck in Joker. However, Todd Phillips has revealed that the Gladiator star didn't actually stay in character all the time.

Phillips was recently a guest on Good Morning America where he admitted that he often gets questions about Phoenix's set antics. However, he was also quick to point out that the actor was no diva.

"To inhabit the character of Arthur/Joker in the movie, he had to go to some pretty dark places and people always ask me, 'Does he stay like that off set?'" Phillips said. "On this film, my only experience with him is only on this film, and, no. We would say, 'Cut,' and be off to the side and joking around or laughing about something and then we'd get back into it."

This isn't exactly what people were probably expecting to hear. Nevertheless, Phillips continued by praising Phoenix for being a fun person to work with on the set of Joker.

"He's really intense as an actor, but as a guy on set, he was actually kinda light," he said.

That's very different from what we've heard about previous actors who have played the Clown Prince of Crime. Needless to say, it proves that Phoenix is someone who takes acting very seriously but still knows how to have fun.

Phoenix recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in Joker.
