Joker is looking to be one hell of a film, giving us one of the most interesting and grounded interpretations of the Batman villain to date. There have only been two trailers and fans already want Joaquin Phoenix to win an Academy Award, though we'll have to wait till the final product comes out before we can assume its quality. However, as good as this might be, this won't be the final interpretation of Joker and the director knows it.
Speaking with the LA Times, director Todd Phillips acknowledged that there will be more movie Jokers after his movie and is okay with that. He compared these comic book characters to the works of Shakespeare since people can take these icons and shape them in any way they want while keeping their core personality intact. That's a great little comment right there.
It's a sad but true fact since Joaquin Phoenix is one of the many actors to have portrayed this character, joining Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto, and Heath Ledger. We've also had a ton of Batman and Superman actors, so really, nothing is sacred when it comes to these heroes and villains. Can't wait to see how people react to a rebooted Iron Man and the 50th Batman actor in the year 2055.
Joker comes out on October 4.
