Joker 2 Plot Leak Debunks Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn Casting

Recently, director Todd Phillips confirmed that a sequel to the hit 2019 film Joker is officially in development with Joaquin Phoenix set to reprise the Oscar-winning role. Soon after, reports emerged that Lady Gaga has joined the cast to play Harley Quinn and the film is going to be a musical. Now, the alleged plot of the film has leaked online and it looks like the iconic pop star might not play the beloved DC villain after all.

World of Reel recently shared some information regarding the alleged plot details of Joker: Folie à Deux. According to their insider, contrary to the reports, Gaga is NOT playing Harley Quinn in the film. Instead, she will be playing an original character that Arthur Fleck will meet after he escaped Arkham Asylum and went on a killing rampage.

The insider also added that Gaga's character will also be "extremely deranged" in her own way and the dynamic between her and Arthur will not be "a straightforward romance" as it is compared more to a Tom and Jerry-type of situation.

Regarding the musical aspects of the film, the insider noted that it will not be in the same vein as La La Land or A Star Is Born and it will lean towards more on the infamous "Singin' in the Rain" scene in A Clockwork Orange which might make some musical fans walk out of the theater. The film is also expected to have "extremely gruesome" deaths and is more violent than any mainstream comic book movie.

While the information has not been confirmed by anyone involved in the film, it sounds like Gaga's role is going to be as big as Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and it won't be similar to the Harley Quinn that we know, which might be the proof that she is indeed not playing the beloved character. Even though the first film referenced the Wayne family, it didn't make many references to the other known Batman characters so the sequel might also shy away again in terms of that.

Given that the film has not reached the production stage, there is a chance that the alleged plot details might change and they might revise it to a lesser-violent version as the studio is giving notes. Assuming that they will retain the idea, it looks like the sequel will be more wild, bonkers, and deranged than the first one.
