Ahead of the Joker: Folie à Deux's premiere, a new report emerged saying that the sequel is "even darker" than the original DC flick. Apparently, the Academy Awards' Best Picture winner in 2020 might have a contender.
Expect a "Darker Take" On the Joker and Harley Quinn in Folie à Deux
Typical for sequels, Joker: Folie à Deux is no stranger to enduring the initial backlash surrounding its creation, especially considering the first one was already a good standalone flick.
Given that the original Joker flick took home several Oscars in 2020 and its open ending could have left fans wondering what happened to Arthur Fleck, a sequel sounds questionable.
When the flick gets released as yet another retelling of Joker meeting his Harley Quinn in Gotham (on top of that, a musical with Lady Gaga as an iteration of Harleen Quinzel), fans were right to be skeptical.
However, according to a recent report, Joker 2 is "somehow even darker than the first." If anything, the film's premise is predicted to be a "major Oscars contender across the board."
Keep in mind that this isn't the first positive review we've heard about Joker: Folie à Deux. Previously, Venice Film Festival director Alberto Barbara said that audiences should not expect this to be a "second part of the previous one."
"It is much more inventive from every point of view," Barbara shared, "I think it is very bold, and brave, and creative, and an incredibly original film."
Apart from having a different take on Harley Quinn and what the couple's essence means to one another in the infamous Arkham Asylum, the sequel also plans on diving deeper into what happens when Arthur falls in love with the music therapist, Harleen "Lee" Quinn.
It remains to be seen just how "darker" Joker 2 really is, especially when American Horror Story star Gaga previously described it as giving the flick this "audacity and complexity" that also spins "drama, comedy, and sadness."
