JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Hirohiko Araki Explains Why Giorno's Dio Connection Isn't Explored

There is little doubt that Giorno Giovanna is the most unusual Joestar out there considering that he dreams of becoming the leader of the criminal organization Passione. However, the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind has another unique trait that fans could never forget: Giorno is the son of Dio Brando who was conceived while the villain controlled Jonathan Joestar's body. But why did the manga and anime never explore this strange connection to the Stardust Crusaders Big Bad? HIrohiko Araki has finally explained why this was never fully addressed in the franchise.

When it was revealed that Giorno is actually Dio's son, fans were expecting JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind to focus on how the young Joestar will look into his father's villainous life and maybe get into a good vs. evil struggle. However, Giorno barely addresses his family and battles Stand users to reach his own personal goal which is to reform Passione.

So why did Hirohiko Araki decide against exploring Giorno's connection to Dio? In an interview shared on Reddit, the mangaka pointed out that it would be an obvious route that he didn't want to take.

"I never had any intention of doing that, actually. Even during Diamond Is Unbreakable, people were speculating if Kars would show up, but this is not the type of manga series that would go in that direction and I'm not the type of person who would write that. If that happened, to me, it'd be over," Araki said.

"I am of the opinion that if readers ever think to themselves, 'I expected that to happen!' then I've failed," he added. "There are many manga out there that would go in that direction, but if I did that, it's over."

Araki certainly knows how to keep JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fans guessing. Luckily, that means that the manga and anime will continue to live up to its name.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is expected to have a second part but the release date of the next batch of episodes has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
