Star Wars fans have always felt like there was some sort of romantic chemistry between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) ever since the two crossed paths in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
However, Boyega says that the Stormtrooper-Turned-Resistance-Fighter isn't going to display any romantic feelings towards the sequel trilogy's Jakku Orphan in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly to help promote the third and final entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, Boyega decided to address fans' thoughts about Finn's feelings for Rey in Episode IX. When asked by the entertainment news outlet whether Finn's crush on Rey still exists, Boyega denies that there's something there.
"I don't feel like it is," Boyega said when asked if Finn's crush on Rey still exists. "I don't know. The Rose-Finn saga, I still don't know what that is yet. I think for Finn there's a bit of confusion, as it happens in real life — you're feeling somebody else more than the other, and things pop up. I think Finn is in a bit of confusion. Despite all the lightsaber stuff and the fate of the world, Finn still is in his early '20s going on through."
The Force Awakens might have suggested that Finn had feelings for Rey, however, Star Wars: The Last Jedi introduced Kelly Marie Tran's Rose Tico, and not only did the two share a mission together, they also shared a kiss after the Resistance mechanic saved Finn's life in the battle on Crait.
We're not entirely sure where The Rise of Skywalker is going to take Finn and what the status of Rose x Finn might be, but we hope that the movie gives him the proper closing arc that he needs.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
