Joe Keery has become an instant fan favorite, thanks to his role as Steve Harrington in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.

When he was young, the now-30-year-old started participating in Theater in the Open, a performing arts camp at Maudslay State Park.

However, he had his first acting experience in high school. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at The Theater School of DePaul University and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting degree in 2014.

He began auditioning for commercials and small TV and film roles. He then made Domino and KFC commercials and had guest roles in Empire and Chicago Fire.

The first feature-length film he did was the indie movie Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party by Stephen Cone in 2015.

He secured a recurring role in the show, and it became an instant hit. He then became one of the major parts of the series from the second season forward.

Joe Keery’s role was originally meant to last for just a season. But as his character turned to be an instant favorite, he continuously reprised his role until today.

His role earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category in 2017.

The other projects he did are After Everything, Slice, How to Be Alone, No Activity, Spree, Death to 2020, and Free Guy.

Aside from being an actor, Joe Keery is also a musician. He has made great efforts to keep these two professions separate.

He played guitar and sang backup vocals for Post Animal, releasing their debut album in 2015 and their second album in 2018.

He then decided to stop touring with the band in 2019 because he feared that his connection with Stranger Things would affect the group.

However, in the same year, he self-released the single “Roddy,” using the name Djo to distance himself from “instant notoriety.” He then dropped his second single, “Chateau (Feel Alright),” and released his debut album Twenty Twenty—still as Djo.

His next release was the song “Keep Your Head Up” in 2020. He also used the name Cool Cool Cool to drop new music.

A major part of Joe Keery’s net worth probably comes from his Stranger Things salary. He reportedly received $10,000 per episode for the first season, followed by an increase of $30,000 per episode for the second season.
