  • Quick Answer: After J.K. Rowling's involvement as an executive producer in the new Harry Potter HBO series, she states the show will be "incredible"

Controversial Harry Potter J.K. Rowling does not seem to have a problem with the upcoming HBO TV show adaptation of her work. Not surprising, considering she's an executive producer.

While other Wizarding World projects have openly confirmed Rowling had no direct involvement, such as Hogwarts Legacy, she's been actively involved with multiple aspects of the TV adaptation as an executive producer.

Rowling stated via social media: "It's going to be incredible. I'm so happy with it," after a fan responded that the initial trailer looked "marvellous."

Despite production quality looking top-notch, many fans are criticizing the gloomy atmosphere that surrounds this version of the Philosopher's Stone. Part of what made the original films interesting was gradually seeing that tonal shift from campy adventures to dark, life and death situations with the rise of Lord Voldemort once again.

That being said, the biggest elephant in the room is Severus Snape's casting, as the character is now being portrayed by Paapa Kwaakye Essiedu, a British actor of Ghanaian descent. While I personally don't have any issues with the casting choice, as the race of the character has little to no impact on how the story is told, a portion of the online fanbase is definitely not happy.

Beyond that, there's the ever-present situation of J.K Rowling actively hurting minorities, many of whom used to love her work growing up. Particularly, the trans community has been affected by the author.

The Harry Potter TV show will release this upcoming December 25. The first season will cover the first book, The Philosopher's Stone, and will run for eight episodes.
