JirisanRelease Date, Episode Count And Where To Watch Online

The forthcoming new K-drama series is scheduled to be released on Oct. 23, 2021, on tvN. Jirisan will be aired every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m. KST. In other words, it would take over the timeslot of Kim Seon Ho and Shin Min Ah's Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha once it finally ends.

Jirisan will have a total of 16 episodes. However, the number could increase should the forthcoming show get high viewership ratings. Having a second installment is also a possibility.

Just like other tvN series, Jirisan will also be available for online streaming. It was confirmed that the South Korean television show will be available on iQIYI worldwide, excluding China and South Korea.

JirisanCast And Production Team

Jirisan will serve as the TV comeback of Jun Ji Hyun, who was previously seen in The Legend Of The Blue Sea opposite Lee Min Ho. Here, the K-drama actress will portray Seo Yi Kang, a top ranger who knows how to navigate the trails of the mountains.

The character of Jun Ji Hyun in Jirisan earned the monikers "Devil Seo" and "Mountain Ghost God" due to her knowledge in tracking down lost hikers based on just a blade of grass or a single leaf. Despite her exceptional skills, Seo Yi Kang has been wanting to leave the mountains and live in a place far away from home.

However, Seo Yi Kang was forced to stay to accompany her grandmother. Interestingly, the cynical views of Jun Ji Hyun's character in Jirisan would start to change after meeting a rookie ranger named Kang Hyun Jo, who will be portrayed by Ju Ji Hoon. The pair would, then, become close to each other.

Aside from Jun Ji Hyun and Ju Ji Hoon, other personalities expected to appear in the upcoming Jirisan series include Sung Dong Il as Jo Dae Jin and Oh Jung Se as Jung Goo Young. The supporting cast is composed of Son Seok Koo, Kim Gook Hee, Yoon Ji On, Kim Young Ok, Joo Min Jyung, Go Min Si, Lee Ga Sub, Jeon Seok Ho, and Cho Han Cheul.

Kim Je Hyeon created Jirisan. Kim Eun Hee, a known playwright who is the brain behind Kingdom: Ashnin of the North, Signal, Three Days, Phantom, Sign and Gold House, will write the upcoming mystery fantasy-thriller drama. Lee Eung Bok, who helmed Sweet Home, Mr. Sunshine, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Descendants of the Sun, Secret Love, Dream High, and School 2013, will direct the upcoming K-drama series.

JirisanPlot And Synopsis

As described, Jirisan revolves around the story of rangers and other workers of the Jirisan who climb through enigmatic and unexplored regions of the mountain. The group rescues survivors and lost trekkers.

Jirisan will also tackle a mystery surrounding the visitors of the maintain, especially those who come to kill and end their own lives. The upcoming new K-drama is based on the interviews of Kim Eun Hee with national park employees, who said:

"When I wrote Jirisan at the beginning, it didn't focus on rangers. I was more interested in stories about mountaineers. However, I was more intrigued about their work after interviewing them."

Other reports suggested that Jirisan is reminiscent of the 1993 American movie titled Cliffhanger. The South Korean television show was filmed with a budget of around $27.4 million. iQIYI got the series' overseas distribution rights for over 25 billion won.
