Of the 30 online content creators, YouTube influencer Jin Yong-Jin rose to the top in The Influencer fans' eyes in episode 2. When participants had to hold the highest number of viewers, Yong-Jin unveiled his secret weapon that landed him in the fourth rank.
The Influencer's Jin Yong-Jin's Streaming Strategy Lands Him on Top Five
The second round of The Influencer involves testing each participant's capability to grab the attention of their subscribers and non-subscribers and hold them for the average total viewers on their live stream.
The main goal is to land among the top five most streamed videos for episode 2. While others chose to bring outside guest stars and perform for the competition, Jin Yong-Jin had a simpler approach to the task.
Jin Yong-Jin, who garnered 2.69 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, decided to sit tight and drink while waiting to earn his number of viewers. The catch? He intentionally made his videos on YouTube private for the sake of gaining attention.
The hook here is creating controversy as to why a trolling YouTuber with over a million followers removed his videos and streamed live, all of a sudden.
As it turns out, this had been a part of his past experiences, as he said on the Netflix reality show, "I've actually known this type of information since I was an editor what viewers are interested in, how much money can I make from YouTube?"
While the 'hook' in his live stream is having his subscribers find why he hid his content, he distributed incentives to keep viewer engagement on his stream.
When 7000 viewers stayed for ten minutes, he revealed his monthly income to keep them on their toes. Soon after, he offered the floor for scandalous and sensitive questions to spark even more controversy around his sudden online appearance.
Yong-Jin later added, "By targeting people's primal curiosities, I was able to maintain viewer engagement up until the very end."
Thanks to his strategy, he ended up being in the top five out of 30 competitors in Netflix's The Influencer.
Although he initially thought he wouldn't even make it on the top five, he ended up on the fourth rank and garnered an average of 8,048 viewers, with his peak viewer count being 11,155.
