J.B. Smoove's Role in Spider-Man: Far from Home Revealed

Ever since it was announced that J.B. Smoove was cast in Spider-Man: Far from Home, there's been a lot of speculation from who he's going to be playing. One prevalent theory was that he was the MCU's new J. Jonah Jameson, but as it turns out, he's just one of Peter Parker's teachers.

Talking to ScreenRant, FFH producer Eric Carroll confirms that Smoove is playing the role of "Mr. Dell." Dell is basically there to contrast with Martin Starr's Mr. Harrington. Carroll says, "We're also bringing back Martin Starr as the hapless Mr. Harrington… Together [with Mr. Dell], they constitute the least-capable group of chaperones ever to be sent to Europe with a bunch of kids."

Funnily enough, it was Smoove's work in an Audi commercial tied with Spider-Man: Homecoming that got him the job. Mr. Dell basically functions as a foil to Harrington's Guardians role. Carroll continued, "Martin Starr, he's like, 'Okay, kids, there's a water monster. So, maybe we'll-', and then you've got J.B. Smoove doing the exact opposite. 'Are you guys seeing this?!'"

If anything, I guess we should just be happy that Smoove is part of the film at all. He does great work in Curb Your Enthusiasm, and even Homecoming had great small roles like Hannibal Buress' Coach Wilson. Who knows, maybe the movie will pull a Michelle/MJ on us and have Mr. Dell turn out to be J.J. Jameson anyway.

Catch Smoove in Spider-Man: Far from Home which hits theaters July 2.
