James Gunn Subtly Adds Another Potential Debutant in the DCU

Given that the DC comics feature a thousand characters that deserve to be featured on screen, fans are always asking or hoping their favorite ones will make the cut. Now that James Gunn is revamping the DCU, some DC comic characters might make their debut anytime soon.

One fan asked the filmmaker if he liked the nuclear-pyrokinetic hero also known as Firestorm, and Gunn responded with a simple "yes," which is enough to make the fandom hope that the character can debut in the new DCU given that Gunn knows that it exists and could use it as leverage.

Before this interaction, Gunn had initially debunked the rumor that he hates Firestorm and has no intention to expand the character in his DCU because fans are truly pushing for the character to reach its full potential on screen.

Firestorm's ability is so noteworthy for the fans given that he possesses both molecular and elemental powers, giving him the flair of creation. Unfortunately, this hasn't translated into much in the DC Universe, with him remaining a sideshow in his past appearances in the media.

The united form of Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein debuted in Firestorm the Nuclear Man #1, created by Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom. Unfortunately, the book was discontinued after only a few issues due to the infamous "DC Implosion," which turned the character into a secondary protagonist in The Flash.

Then a new Firestorm title that ran from 1982 until 1990 circulated with controversies. This was the character's lone title for over a decade until Firestorm was granted a new ongoing series in 2004.

In the New 52 relaunch, Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond were blended into a fresh take on the character, but the character's notoriety was only brief. Now, fans are hoping that drawing attention to the unlucky hero will push Gunn to explore his arc in the new DCU.

The first chapter of the DC Universe, dubbed Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will include a slate of films and television shows, including Superman: Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, a Batman, and Robin-focused picture, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and a Swamp Thing film, among others.
