The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special is along with the list of the Marvel Cinematic Universe releases coming into Disney+ during the Disney Investor Day last year. The beloved protectors of the galaxy, sans Gamora, of course, will get together again once more in a one-off for the holidays and the director is pleased to share a sneak peek of it on his Twitter account.
James Gunn's MCU tenure could be considered as a bit rocky but now that he's back for more, he posted on Twitter a sweet preview of the Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special with the caption, "This is the wrapping. The present is inside. #GotGHS" with a Santa, rocket, and purple heart emoji.
In the same thread, James Gunn also confirmed that the Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special will be following the events before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and just after that of Thor: Love and Thunder. This brings us to the absence of Gamora in the show as she went rogue after Avengers: Endgame.
The film is expected to pump up the fans of the franchise and give a gift to fans as it is one of the many firsts in the long history of the MCU given that it will be the first release focusing on a seasonal celebration. With the whole team back together and after everything they have been through, it seems fitting that the story will be about getting the band back on holiday.
Speculations also point to Rocket being the narrator of the film given what our favorite talking animal has been through in the MCU especially being the only Guardian left on Earth after the snap of Thanos, Rocket could somehow bring to the group what learnings he had on Earth, like Christmas, during the 5 long years of waiting for everyone to be back.
The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special is expected to premiere in 2022 and with a seasonal celebration, possibly during the holidays that year.
