James Gunn Reacts To Martin Scorsese Dissing Marvel Films

In case you missed it, filmmaker Martin Scorsese has just shared his surprising opinion about Marvel films, stating that the comic book movies are "not cinema." It's a shocking comment indeed, and James Gunn has just shared his own opinion about what Scorsese said.

Gunn took to his official Twitter account to share a write-up about Scorsese's comments. In addition to that, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director posted his own thoughts on the report.

"Martin Scorsese is one of my 5 favorite living filmmakers. I was outraged when people picketed The Last Temptation of Christ without having seen the film. I'm saddened that he's now judging my films in the same way," Gunn wrote.

Although Gunn is clearly disappointed by how Scorsese perceives the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, he later added that he still respects the legendary filmmaker.

"That said, I will always love Scorsese, be grateful for his contribution to cinema, and can't wait to see The Irishman," Gunn wrote.

Scorsese's comments also likened Marvel films to theme parks.

"I don't see them. I tried, you know? But that's not cinema," Scorsese said. "Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."

The Irishman will premiere on Netflix on November 1. Gunn is currently working on The Suicide Squad, which is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
