The production for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is well underway. Details for the movie's plot are still kept under wraps but there are some set photos that were just recently released. And even though Joker was present in the first movie, it seems like the director is hinting that the Joker won't be included in this one.

Gunn recently did a Q&A session with fans on his Instagram account. One person, in particular, asked how the director would justify the movie if he wouldn't include Joker in it. Gunn neither denied nor confirmed the villain's appearance, but he gave somewhat of a clue with his answer.

"No one but me and a few others know all the characters in the movie," Gunn writes. "But if the Joker isn't in the film, I don't think it would be strange." The director points out that Joker wasn't in the Suicide Squad comics so he thinks it wouldn't be strange to not include the Clown Prince of Crime. Frankly, Joker was only in David Ayer's Suicide Squad because he was set to associate with Harley Quinn, who eventually became his girlfriend in the movie. Gunn made a point with his answer and fans have somewhat of an answer to Joker's appearance in his movie now.

It's unlikely that Joker will appear in Gunn's upcoming film now. And at this point, it isn't even definite if the movie will be some sort of a reboot or sequel because there aren't many details revealed except for the cast which Gunn previously posted. Hopefully, we could get more information about the movie very soon.

For now, fans are only able to wait until The Suicide Squad premieres on August 6, 2021.
