James Gunn Confirms Groot Rumor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

James Gunn might be keeping a tight lip on the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but it looks like the Marvel director is pretty open to talking about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Posting on his Instagram stories (via Heroic Hollywood), Gunn decided to confirm a long-running rumor about Groot – the filmmaker played the adorable Baby Groot during the opening scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the sequence, fans get to see Groot dancing with abandon to Electric Light Orchestra's Mr. Blue Sky while the rest of the Guardians deal with the inter-dimensional monster that's fallen from the sky. As it turns out, Gunn played Baby Groot during this sequence, dancing while wearing a motion capture suit.

Marvel fans loved the opening sequence to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and this little tid bit just adds a whole lot of fun to the scene. We can only wonder whether Gunn might try a similar stunt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Right now, we have very little news about what the filmmaker has planned for the third and final installment in his cosmic comic book movie trilogy. We do know however that the film will focus on the remaining members of the Guardians – Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

While Avengers: Endgame's final scene had Thor (Chris Hemsworth) tagging along with the Guardians, we can't really be sure whether the Asgardian God of Thunder's going to appear in the third GOTG movie. Let's wait and see.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to receive a release date. We'll update fans as soon as we get word.
