The 44-year-old star started auditioning for roles in Los Angeles and landed his first paid role in a pizza commercial in 1997.

His big break then came in 1999 when he joined the NBC show Freaks and Greeks, while his debut movie, Never Been Kissed, was out in 2000.

From there, his star power continued to rise as he led the 2001 TV biographical film James Dean, earning a Golden Globe Award and nominations for an Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award.

He then joined Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy from 2002 to 2007, followed by Sonny, City by the Sea, Milk, Pineapple Express, and more.

But if there’s one movie that James Franco is best known for, it’s the critically-acclaimed 2010 film 127 Hours, for which he received an Academy Award for Best Actor nomination.
