Jameela Jamil Campaigns Herself To Play A Star Wars Villain

“A girl can dream,” She-Hulk star Jameela Jamil has advocated for herself to play a Star Wars villain, hoping to round out her list of geeky on-screen roles that includes DC, Marvel, and Star Trek. Despite no assurance that she will get what she’s hoping for, the thing about dreams is that some of them do come true if one pushes hard enough.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Jamil said that she would love to join the Star Wars franchise. “I’ve done DC, I’ve done the MCU, I’ve now joined Star Trek, so it feels only natural that I should at least be allowed to do catering at Star Wars," she joked. "I’ve been referring to it as my nerd EGOT – that would be the ultimate dream come true and fulfill every 12-year-old fantasy I had.”

Despite being open to anything, Jamil is more interested in portraying any Star Wars baddie if given the chance. "I’d take literally anything, but I think, a villain," she suggested. “...Right now we are so divided. We almost seek to misunderstand each other. If we don’t understand each other, we’re never going to be able to find a way back to one another. That’s something that I’m very drawn to, helping people understand people who are different to them. And so I’m into playing the villains.”

Jamil, who is best known for playing Tahani Al-Jamil in The Good Place, recently provided the voice of Wonder Woman for the DC League of Super-Pets video game in 2022. Her acting resume includes Star Trek: Prodigy, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, and Harley Quinn. In addition to being a playable character in the mobile video game Marvel: Future Fight, Titania has already made appearances in animated programs including Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and Avengers Assemble.

In She-Hulk, the actress plays Titania, a villain originally named Mary MacPherran who first appeared in 1984’s Secret Wars. She and She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) have clashed on several occasions in the comic run. Jamil also recently opened up about how she hopes to portray a more comics-accurate Titania in the MCU. “I would love to be able to tell that original iteration," she said. "I think what they did was so cool and so funny with making her a relatable social media influencer. But there’s a whole other world to Titania and a whole other side to her.”

She continued, “The Doctor Doom version of Titania is something that I really want to bring to life, I want to bring the Absorbing Man in, I want Volcana,” she said. “I don’t know if Marvel will ever bring me back, but if they do that’s the story I would most love to tell.”

The actress’ "nerd EGOT" reference pertains to any person who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, or Tony Award—respectively for television, recording, cinema, and Broadway theater—and is referred to as having an "EGOT." There are presently 17 EGOT winners, including Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, and Whoopi Goldberg, among others.
