Jake Gyllenhaal Reflects on Spider-Man: Far From Home's Mid-Credits Scene, How it 'Helps' Peter

Some Spider-Man movies have changed things a bit for Peter Parker but Spider-Man: Far From Home has made the biggest one thus far. During that shocking mid-credits sequence, Mysterio revealed to the world that Peter Parker is, in fact, Spider-Man and everyone thinks he's a murderer since the master illusionist also convinced everyone that the wallcrawler killed him. It's definitely one hell of a status quo change.

Well, Mysterio himself, Jake Gyllenhaal has decided to elaborate on the mid-credits sequence and he actually feels that this will help Peter Parker in the long run. Rather than hide behind the mask, Peter Parker will have to be honest with everyone from now on, assuming that they will have him confirm that Spider-Man is, in fact, Peter.

Here is what Gyllenhaal told The Hollywood Reporter:

"Well, I just love great endings that refer back to other great endings. The first movie [Homecoming] was great like that, too. I also love the end of Prisoners. I love those kind of cliffhanger moments. So often, we're used to the same structure, particularly in very large movies, and it takes a lot of courage to leave on those kinds of cliffhangers. The way I look at it is twofold: Mysterio exists as someone to teach Peter Parker a lesson. In my opinion, there's no use for just a straight-up bad guy unless there's a lesson to be learned. And the lesson, particularly for Peter, is what is growing up for real."

It seems like the next movie will have to deal with these major consequences for Peter. This is something previous films have never done before and it could give us a radically different take on the character, which is something a lot of superhero movies can't claim.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is now showing in theaters.
