After the intensity of the first cour from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2, we could all use a little break and The Slime Diaries is delivering on that in spades!
A charming slice of life comedy spinoff from the primary story, the episodes within this series will not advance the main story one bit but will focus on the daily lives of the residents of the Jura Tempest Federation. Over the course of 12 episodes, the stories within this series will take viewers through the various seasons, including a too hot summer and a freezing, snowy winter.
Animated by studio Eight Bit and directed by Yuji Ikuhara working off scripts written by Kotatsumikan, the series was originally set to air in January 2021 but was delayed until April when the worldwide pandemic created production issues in 2020.
Is The Slime Diaries on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, or Funimation in English Sub or Dub?
The good news is that as of April 2021, the only legal place to view this series is Crunchyroll, which has it available in its original Japanese with subtitles. No other streaming site including Funimation, Hulu, or Netflix has announced plans to stream this series.
It is worth noting, however, that Funimation is streaming the first and second season of the primary story in both Japanese and English. Perhaps someday down the line, we'll see this series added to their library? It wouldn't shock me in the least if we did.
The Slime Diaries was a series that I was questionable about before it started airing. Would these characters be able to keep their own series afloat? It seems the answer to that question is a resounding yes. The laughs that this series delivers make for a wonderful weekly treat that makes me happy every time that theme song starts.
This is a series that is a love letter to fans of the franchise. It's not meant to do much of anything but put a smile on the faces of fans, and it does exactly that!
