Fans are desperate for Ted Lasso Season 4. The Apple TV+ series was a surprise smash hit when it debuted, as viewers around the world started to believe in the unlikely hero.
While the third season finale felt like a closure for the titular character's journey in the series, it planted seeds for potential storylines that could continue in a fourth season or even a spinoff project.
Is Ted Lasso Season 4 Happening?
When the third season premiered last year, showrunner and star Jason Sudeikis insisted that it was the end of his character's three-season arc and they had no plans to proceed for another season at that time.
"This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering," he explained.
"Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far."
However, Sudeikis was open to the idea of doing a spinoff series if the right idea came along.
"Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories. Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do," he said.
"It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely."
Fortunately, it was reported a few months ago that Apple TV+ was nearing a deal to move forward with the fourth season. Production is planned to begin next year.
Who Could Return in Ted Lasso Season 4?
In the report of the series' renewal, it was revealed that the options on the contracts of Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) under Equity have been picked up.
Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) are also expected to return as the studio was also in negotiations with them for a new deal under SAG-AFTRA.
Unfortunately, Phil Dunster (Jamie Tart) is not expected to return as a series regular due to scheduling conflicts. He will likely appear for a guest appearance instead.
Fans should wait for more updates on the casting for the fourth season as the negotiations are still ongoing, but we can safely say that the majority of the main cast is likely to return.
