Is Star Trek: The Next Generation Getting a Reboot?

We already got a reboot of the Star Trek original series, thanks to J.J. Abrams. But is it time to give Star Trek: The Next Generation a makeover as well? There have been speculations that the franchise might get a reboot in the near future.

Back in 2009, the original Star Trek series got an update in the form of a sleek new film directed by Abrams that introduced Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk. The movie would lead to two other movies that were both commercially successful. So is it finally time for The Next Generation to get its own "next generation?"

It's a possibility that is considered by Red Shirts Always Die, pointing out that it has been almost two decades since TNG concluded. In addition to that, the cast is certainly not getting any younger although most of them have appeared in Patrick Stewart's series Star Trek: Picard.

The possibility of a TNG reboot is even more imaginable now that James McAvoy has brought back his campaign to be cast as the younger version of Jean-Luc Picard. Although the Split actor was actually hoping to be a guest on Stewart's show, fans have also wondered if McAvoy could lead a reboot featuring a young Picard.

While a reboot might be an idea to consider in the future, The Next Generation is still relevant today because of Picard. For now, we'll just keep focusing on the CBS All Access shows that are being made.
