- Quick Answer: Spider-Noir is a standalone series set in 1932, completely separate from the Spider-Verse animated films despite both projects starring Nicolas Cage.
Fans will see a different kind of Spider-Man in Prime Video’s superhero noir television series Spider-Noir, led by Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, aka Spider-Man Noir.
But this won’t be the first time fans meet this comic book character, as his first appearance happened in Sony’s Into the Spider-Verse.
So, how is Spider-Noir connected to the Spider-Verse movies and when it’s set in the Marvel timeline?
Where Does Spider-Noir Fit in the Marvel Timeline?

In chronological terms, Spider-Noir is one of the earliest projects in the Marvel movie and TV timeline, as it is set in the post-World War I era.
In the series, both Lonnie Lincoln (played by Abraham Popoola) and Flint Marko (Jack Huston) are World War I veterans, placing the story before Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter, which are set in the 1940s.
Sure, parts of Eternals and Eyes of Wakanda take place before World War I, but when it comes to Marvel’s expanded modern cinematic timeline, Spider-Noir is still among the earliest-set projects.
In fact, the series is set 15 years after World War I, placing it around 1932–even before the MCU got its first Avenger in 1942, when Steve Rogers became the world’s first super-soldier.
The World War I setting is also important to the show itself. In the comics, the Spider-Man Noir version of Peter Parker based parts of his look on the uniform of his Uncle Ben, who served as a pilot during the war.
This helps explain why Spider-Noir’s attire has a militaristic appearance. Meanwhile, Ben Reilly is also portrayed as a veteran in the series, which further explains his rugged look and style.
How is Spider-Noir Connected to the Spider-Verse Movies?

The Multiverse Saga has confirmed that the Marvel timeline exists as a single multi-branched structure, with different branches splitting into the Sony universe, the Fox continuity, and the MCU itself.
As a result, all shows and films are conceptually connected within a larger multiverse framework.
However, while Spider-Noir features a version of Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, this interpretation of the character is different from his appearance in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The Prime Video series is understood to be a standalone take, separate from other Spider-Man Noir versions seen in previous animated or multiverse projects.
That said, these are still two different versions of Cage’s character across different continuities. If Sony ever chose to connect them, it would likely only happen through a multiverse crossover with the Spider-Verse films.
However, since the series is set significantly earlier in the timeline, it currently appears too distant to directly connect to those universes–though, in a multiverse story, that kind of limitation is never truly permanent.
