Is Shrek 5 A Reboot Or Sequel? Here's Everything We Know So Far

Speculations of a fifth Shrek film have been around since the release of the last flick, Shrek Forever After, in 2010. Eleven years later, fans of the franchise still hold high hopes that Shrek 5 is happening.

Currently, there have been rumors that Shrek 5 is in the last leg of production. In a previous report, a ballpark release date has been circulating, pointing out that Shrek 5 will most likely be released this coming 2022.

Reinvention and Reboot Of The Shrek 5 Plot

According to the most recent updates on Shrek 5, the film has been delayed for a long time due to pre-production problems as well as storyline revision. There have been minimal updates of the production of the film. But, it is believed that the fifth Shrek film would be a reboot instead of a sequel.

With four films under the franchise, the story of Shrek, Fiona, and their gang has clearly been overplayed at this point. In previous reports, it is speculated that the plot of Shrek 5 will be a total reboot from the original storyline. A fresh start would put the story on the map again.

In a 2018 report, Chris Meledandri of Illumination shared his two cents, stating that, if Shrek 5 was to happen, he would want the original cast to come back but with a reinvented story.
