Sung Hoo Park’s latest directorial project is none other than Ninja Kamui. It is an action and adventure anime co-produced with Adult Swim and will air in the Toonami programming block. It revolves around a former ninja named Joe Higan, but is Ninja Kamui based on a manga?

What Is Ninja Kamui About?
Ninja Kamui revolves around Joe Higan, a former ninja who decided to quit his ninja clan and escape from his violent past. Together with his family, Joe relocated to rural America to hide and begin a new peaceful life.
It’s not that easy, as Joe and his wife have been bothered by the growing number of murders around the country.
The unsettling events didn’t stop, and later on, Joe’s family became the target of a team of assassins from his former organization.
Unfortunately, Joe’s wife and only child died in the incident. Meanwhile, Joe miraculously survives even after he is pronounced dead.
Joe, who’s now filled with hate and feelings of revenge, re-emerges as his former self, Ninja Kamui.
Will Joe be able to avenge his family’s death and destroy the very clan that made him?
Is Ninja Kamui Based on a Manga?
No, Ninja Kamui is not based on a manga. It is an original anime with an original storyline, so don’t expect to read any source material floating around the internet.
Of course, like any other original anime, Ninja Kamui has been influenced and inspired by prior works, which some people will be able to recognize by the time it begins airing.
Is Ninja Kamui Related to Kamui 1964 Manga?
No, Ninja Kamui is not related to the Kamui 1964 manga by Sanpei Shirato, despite both materials having the same ninja-themed plot.
The 1964 Kamui manga revolves around Kamui, a ninja who became a fugitive after abandoning his ninja clan, which is somehow similar to the premise of the Ninja Kamui anime.
Like Joe, Kamui is driven to the corner by his former allies and their oppressive means.
However, the 1964 Kamui manga lacks the revenge-driven premise of Ninja Kamui. While these two have some similarities, they are not in any way related.
Ninja Kamui will arrive on February 10, 2024, on the Toonami programming block, both in Japanese audio with subtitles and in English dub. It will also drop on Max the following day.
