The fifth episode of Invincible's second season, titled "This Must Come as a Shock," picks up from where the previous episode left off, with Mark Grayson returning to his everyday life and finding out what he's missed.

He and Atom Eve join the Guardians of the Globe to protect the world against the Sequids.

One of the episode's biggest highlights is the violent and bloody clash between Dupli-Kate and Komodo Dragon towards the end of the episode.

Invincible season 2 episode 5 ends with Komodo Dragon killing Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Rae before Rex Splode saves the day by slaying the supervillain, losing a hand in the process.

Since the next episode isn't yet out, we can't tell for sure if Dupli-Kate is still alive, although the comic the series is based on might offer some insights.

As her name indicates, Dupli-Kate can create duplicates of herself, each of whom is capable of independent feeling and action.

All duplicates are connected so that if one dies all of them feel it, but this doesn't mean that all of them die too.

Later comic chapters have Dupli-Kate's twin brother, Multi-Paul try to avenge her, only to discover that she's alive after all -- not an uncommon trope in superhero stories.

As it turns out, Kate's clones died fighting, but the original Kate was far enough to survive the battle with Komodo Dragon.

The 79th issue features Dupli-Kate on its cover, confirming her survival, though we have yet to see what the TV series is going to do with this information.
