Why is Delilah McGee in a Wheelchair in the NCIS Series?

It all began in NCIS season 11 episode 12 titled Kill Chain, when a gala in Conrad was being thrown to honor Delilah for her advocacy in anti-terrorism.

However, that very same night, Delilah suffered an accident with the terrorist leader of the Brotherhood of Doubt Benham Parsa.

He blew up the place, leading Delilah into the hospital. Although she survived, she was left in a paralyzed state.

As it turns out, the plotline of the episode was inspired by the real-life success stories of women who survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and restarted their lives from there, as explained by NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg during the Television Critics Association press tour.

"So the intent was — and is — to show someone who comes from a government background involved in something tragic like this and manages to persevere," he added, "We're very excited about the arc of what that character is going to face as someone in a wheelchair and how that's going to be portrayed."
