Lee Je-Hoon stars as Park Yeong-Han, the ever-confident detective with good instincts; Lee Dong Hwi as Kim Sang-Soon, the hot-tempered detective also known as the mad dog; Choi Woo-Sung as Cho Kyung-Hwan, the wealthy and polite detective at Jongnam Police Station; and Yoon Hyun-Soo as Seo Ho-Jeong, an aspiring master investigator at the same station.
In addition, Seo Eun-Soo portrays Lee Hye-Joo, a bookstore owner who subsequently marries Yeong-Han.

Chief Detective 1958 is a Korean crime-thriller series set in 1950s Korea, where social turmoil and political intrigue are prevalent.
The plot revolves around Park Yeong-Han, a bright detective with the greatest arrest record who transfers to a police station in Seoul from the suburbs.
There, he discovers that corruption is widespread within the law enforcement department, forcing him to reckon with reality.
Park Yeong-Han, along with his equally charismatic colleagues, aspires to bring those responsible to justice, protect the innocent, challenge corrupt standards, and become a true detective for the public.
Expect to witness the protagonists use traditional investigative methods to solve each case they come across while having a fascinating experience.
So, Is Chief Detective 1958 Based on a Manhwa?
While many Korean dramas are now based on manhwas or webtoons, Chief Detective 1958 is not, so don't expect to read any source material online to find out what happens to the characters as the plot unfolds.
In fact, it is a prequel to the popular Korean drama series Chief Inspector, which aired for 880 episodes between 1971 and 1989.
Hopefully, Chief Detective 1958 will enjoy the same success as Chief Inspector when it launches on MBC TV on April 19, 2024.
