Into the Spider-Verse 2 Producer Teases Japanese Spider-Man and Leopardon Debut

There is little doubt that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened a lot of possibilities by introducing several different incarnations of the webslinger. But is it finally time to acknowledge one of the character's zanier versions from the past? Producer Phil Lord has just teased on the upcoming debut of Japanese Spider-Man and his giant robot Leopardon in the second film.

Lord recently took part in an online viewing party of the first movie and even took time to answer fan questions. In addition to that, Lord dropped interesting hints throughout the screening party. For instance, he pointed out that the giant mech showed up in the 2018 flick. Take a look at his tweet below.

"Leopardon appearance in Miles' sketches... a hint of things to come?" Lord wrote before adding the hashtags #SpiderVerse and #QuarantineWatchParty.

Now that sounds promising. The Japanese Spider-Man series is undoubtedly one of the stranger incarnations of the character considering that he works with a giant robot to catch criminals. Although the Toei show first aired in the late 1970s, it would be awesome to see Leapardon in Into The Spider-Verse 2. Needless to say, we can't wait to see the sequel.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 was initially scheduled for release on April 8, 2022. However, the premiere has been delayed by Sony Pictures. The sequel is now set to hit theaters on October 7, 2022.
