Marvel Studios has been lauded by fans and critics for its handling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but whether people would like to admit it or not, there are times when the studio drops the ball on certain stories and characters. One of which is Thor's trusty ally and keeper of the Hofund (aka the Bifrost sword) Heimdall who is arguably one of the most underutilized characters in the franchise.

Actor Idris Elba played the character on multiple MCU projects, ending his tenure in Avengers: Infinity War after being killed by Thanos. Since his departure from the Marvel film franchise, there have been rumors that circulated online regarding the English actor's frustrations over his Marvel gig. Now, Elba is starring in DC's The Suicide Squad and it looks like he's enjoying the ride so far but would he be open to reprising his Heimdall role?

ComicBook recently caught up with Elba during the press tour for The Suicide Squad and when asked about the possibility of making an MCU comeback, he offered quite a cryptic answer. He said: "I think that I'm excited about the possibilities in the DC world. And I think the word of choice to make note of is the word 'seemingly.'"

With the entire multiverse coming into play in Phase Four, there's obviously a good chance that characters like Heimdall could make their way back to the franchise real soon. We've already gotten a taste of it in Loki when the standalone series introduced us to the concept of "variants" aka alternate versions of our beloved characters. On the other hand, the idea of Heimdall surviving the Mad Titan's onslaught isn't too hard to believe as well.

Thor: Love and Thunder is slated for release in May 2022.
