Keanu Reeves will play Shadow in the movie Sonic The Hedgehog 3, due to come out this December. Shadow first appeared in the 2001 video game Sonic Adventure 2 and will make his first live-action appearance in Sonic 3.
Reeves will voice Shadow alongside Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Idris Elba (Knuckles), and Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails). You may know Keanu Reeves from movies like John Wick, The Matrix, Point Break, and Constantine, but this is not his first voice-acting role. Previously, he has done voices for animated movies and video games like Toy Story 4 and Cyberpunk 2077.
Keanu Reeves gets to play the role of Shadow the Hedgehog, an antihero with good intentions who will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals. He has no issue doing bad things to get the job done, which puts him at odds with Sonic.

At the Knuckles Paramount show premiere, Idris Elba reacted to Keanu Reeves’ Sonic The Hedgehog casting: "Well, rumour has it we might be sharing the screen again, but who knows? Keanu is…I’m a big fan of his. I’ve heard that he’s a fan of mine, and we are destined to make something together. So. here we go."
Idris and Keanu, or Knuckles and Shadow, have shared the screen before, but not in a live-action movie. The last time these two shared the screen was in the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Idris played the role of a government agent, Solomon Reed, while Keanu played the secondary protagonist, Johnny Silverhand. The pair are legendary actors, and sharing the screen again will bring more of their respective fanbases to the upcoming movie, which will be released in December 2024.
