What Happened to South Park Creators’ Deal with Paramount?
Fans once feared for South Park’s future as Parker and Stone entered high-stakes negotiations with Paramount.
The network is currently in the process of merging with Skydance, which reportedly objected to the original 10-year, $3 billion deal intended to secure the satirical animated series’ future.
As negotiations continued and Paramount’s licensing deal for the series expired, the show briefly became available on other platforms, and the release of the new season was delayed.
Fortunately, just before Season 27 premiered, a new agreement was reached—though it was only half the size of the original proposal.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the two parties agreed on a five-year, $1.5 billion deal, with Paramount acquiring global streaming rights to South Park and bringing the series to Paramount+ for the first time in the U.S.
As part of the new deal, Parker and Stone—through their Park County production company—will produce 10 episodes per year, totaling 50 episodes over five years.
This five-year agreement means the show will earn $1.5 billion from streaming alone, proving that South Park remains one of the world’s most valuable TV franchises.
Sources say Paramount had attempted to craft a co-licensing agreement with HBO Max and its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, which would have allowed the cartoon to be featured on both Paramount+ and HBO Max.
However, the deal ultimately fell through, leaving Paramount+ as the exclusive streaming home.
With both Paramount and Park County eager to finalize the deal before the Season 27 premiere, South Park has now officially returned to its home network and found a new streaming platform—ending all uncertainty for fans.
