The first 20 minutes of the final episode of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette explored the aftermath of the explosive fight between the couple, as we've seen in the penultimate episode last week.

They revealed that John did not return to Carolyn after leaving their apartment. However, they still tried to fix their marriage by attending sessions with a counselor, who suggested that they should take some time apart.

However, each was encouraged by their respective sisters to fight for their relationship, and eventually, John and Carolyn started going on dates again and reminisced about their passion in the earlier years of their romance. Carolyn has also started making public appearances in support of her husband.

Then, the story jumped to the fateful day on July 16, 1999. John, Carolyn, and Lauren boarded a plane piloted by John to attend a Kennedy family wedding in Martha's Vineyard. Carolyn was initially hesitant, but she ultimately decided to join her husband.

In their final moments, it is shown that the weather has worsened, and John is sensing a problem with the plane. John and Carolyn exchanged looks, seemingly realizing that something was coming. Carolyn moved to the front to sit beside her husband. Lauren tried to stay calm in the back. A red light was flashing in the instrument panel before the screen cut to black.

We saw the reaction of the couple's family and the world in the aftermath of the plane crash. The Kennedy and Bessette families were grieving about John, Carolyn, and Lauren's deaths. There was also a heartbreaking moment when Caroline Kennedy broke down over losing another family member, a few years after her mother, Jackie, passed away.

Carolyn's mother, Ann, and Caroline also visited the couple's apartment to reflect on the couple, their regrets, and the grief that they're experiencing.

The episode ended with a funeral for the three, attended by family members and the characters we've met throughout the season, including Calvin Klein. Ann delivered a eulogy. Afterwards, they scattered the ashes into the ocean.

Then, in the final shot, as we hear Ann saying the words, "Do not stand by my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die." John and Carolyn were seen sitting on the beach alone and looking happy.

What's Next for Love Story

In a recent interview with Vanity FairLove Story showrunner Connor Hines was asked whether he already has an idea for a potential second season.

He revealed that he is indeed already considering which couple he will tackle in the show's next season: Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

"They have the right intensity," Hines noted.

So far, FX has not officially renewed Love Story for a second season. Considering that it has become a ratings success and has strong social buzz, it won't be surprising if it gets renewed soon.
