We've seen throughout the history of reality TV that there are contestants who became stars and have a difficult transition to having a normal life after participating in a series.
Some of them luckily became popular and ended up having successful careers in show business. Unfortunately, there are also some who have difficulty navigating their life after the show airs.
Reality TV Stars That Rose to Fame
Some of the reality TV stars rose to fame after their respective shows aired, and they never had the type of normal life again due to their popularity.
A famous example is actress Jamie Chung, who made her breakthrough when she was part of the hit MTV reality series The Real World: San Diego and its spinoff series.
She was popular when the series aired and achieved fame soon after as she used her clout to start an acting career that is now successful.
There are other countless examples of cases where someone who starred in a reality TV series ended up being popular and used it to their advantage as it resulted in having a successful career in show business.
However, while they managed to achieve fame after doing the reality shows, they never have a transition to "normal" life. Instead, it changed differently and they never have the type of lifestyle again.
This shows that there is an advantage to starring in a reality series and you can successfully transition to a different kind of life and career even if it's beyond the "normal" type.
The Difficulty of Having a 'Normal' Life After Doing a Reality Show
There are reality TV stars who have struggled with their transition to having a "normal" life after filming their shows.
Love Island contestant Zara Holland was having difficulty after doing the series due to having sex with another contestant and the backlash that it spawned including being stripped of her Miss Great Britain title.
"It was the biggest regret of my life – I think about it every day. I’m still so embarrassed. I went on the show thinking I’d never do anything like that, but it all happened so quickly. I remember waking up the next day and just staying in the beach hut for hours wondering what I’d done," she said in an interview.
"The worst thing was that I felt I’d let my family down. I worked so hard to get my Miss Great Britain title, I was so proud and did a lot of charity work that was then forgotten. I’d love to go back in time and not be known as the girl who lost her Miss Great Britain title for having sex on TV."
Unfortunately, some reality TV stars have a darker life after doing the reality shows and would end up in a tragedy.
A 2019 report claimed that around 21 US reality TV contestants died through suicide around that decade. It all happened sometime after their stint in their respective reality shows.
While some reality stars managed to use their fame to an advantage and have a successful career, it is unfortunate that some of them also did not make it and have a tragic ending.
